The Intriguing Pull Me Up Red Velvet Cake: A Fun Take on a Classic

Hey baking enthusiasts! Today, we’re taking a playful detour from the ordinary with the mesmerizing Pull Me Up Red Velvet Cake.

Ingredients:

  • For the Red Velvet Cake:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup buttermilk

1/2 cup vegetable oil

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon white vinegar

1 teaspoon red food coloring (gel preferred for vibrant color)

  • For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 ounces cream cheese, softened

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

3 cups powdered sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2-3 tablespoons milk (optional)

  • For Decoration (Optional):

Sprinkles

Chocolate shavings

Fresh berries

Fondant decorations

Cooking Process:

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round cake pans. Line the bottoms with parchment paper for easy removal.

2. Whisk dry ingredients:In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.

3. Combine wet ingredients: In a large bowl, cream together vegetable oil and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring until well combined.

4. Alternate wet and dry ingredients: In three batches, alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet ingredients, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined, be careful not to overmix.

5. Vinegar magic: In a small bowl, whisk together white vinegar. Gently fold it into the batter. This activates the buttermilk and creates the signature red velvet crumb.

6. Bake it up! Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cakes cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.

7. Creamy dream frosting: In a large bowl, beat together softened cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar, salt, and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated. If the frosting is too thick, add milk, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches your desired spreading consistency.

8. Assemble : Once the cakes are cool, place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous layer of frosting over the top. Carefully place the second cake layer on top. Frost the entire cake, creating a smooth finish.

9. The big reveal: Here comes the fun part! Using a sharp knife, carefully cut a spiral pattern from the top of the cake. Slowly pull the center section upwards, revealing the hidden layers of cake and frosting.

Tips:

For a richer red color, use gel food coloring instead of liquid.

Don’t overmix the batter. A few lumps are okay!

Make sure your cream cheese and butter are softened at room temperature for a smooth frosting.

If the cake seems fragile when cutting the spiral, chill it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before frosting.

Get creative with your garnishes! Use candy melts, edible glitter, or colorful candies to personalize your Pull Me Up masterpiece.

Garnishing or Visualizing:

This cake is all about the reveal, so let the spiral design take center stage. You can add a simple dusting of powdered sugar or a sprinkle of cocoa powder for a classic touch.

For a more playful presentation, get creative! Here are some ideas:

Themed sprinkles: Match the sprinkles to the occasion. Use heart-shaped sprinkles for Valentine’s Day or rainbow sprinkles for a birthday celebration.

Berry burst:Fresh berries add a pop of color and freshness. Arrange them around the base of the cake or tuck them into the gaps of the spiral.

Fondant fun: If you’re feeling adventurous, use fondant to create custom decorations that match your theme.

Enjoy 🎉
